Washington, D.C., U.S. Capitol. 2022 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president of the United States and commanding general of the U.S. Army during the American Civil War.
2022 also marks 100 years since the dedication of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, located outside of the U.S. Capitol.
A commemoration of both anniversaries was hosted by U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), in collaboration with the U.S. Capitol Historical Society (U.S.C.H.S.) and can be viewed on the Society’s YouTube account.
As noted by the U.S.C.H.S., modern historians are reexamining Grant, who was once held in equal-esteem with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
The Ulysses S. Grant Bicentennial Commemoration program was as follows:
The Honorable Roy Blunt, U.S. Senator for Missouri
The Honorable Brett Blanton, 12th Architect of the U.S. Capitol
Dr. Ronald C. White, Jr. New York Times bestselling author of American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant
