U.S. Grant bicentennial April 22, 2022
Register now on Eventbrite for the free, Tuesday, April 26, 10:30 a.m. (EDT), livestream of the U.S. Capitol commemoration of Ulysses S. Grant’s bicentennial.
Here’s the registration link in full: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ulysses-grant-bicentennial-commemoration-registration-320986638677
The event is to be hosted by U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), the Architect of the Capitol, and the U.S. Capitol Historical Society. Historian Ronald C. White, author of American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant, will be featured. The Ulysses S. Grant Memorial on the west side of the Capitol will provide a fitting venue. Thank you to the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library for making me aware of this livestream.
Of course, the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial (see image below) should not to be confused with “Grant’s Tomb,” in New York City, officially the General Grant National Memorial.
The memorial at the Capitol is the largest equestrian statue in the United States and the fifth largest in the world. It was dedicated on April 27, 1922, Grant’s 100th birthday. So Wednesday, April 27, 2022, will mark the start of both Grant’s bicentennial and the D.C. memorial’s centennial!
Giddyup!
